Last Sunday, 9 November 2025, the community of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Naremburn came together for a beautiful celebration honoring the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven—a long-cherished tradition for many families, especially within the vibrant Italian-Catholic community of the parish.
Although the official Feast of the Assumption falls on August 15, St. Leonard’s has lovingly kept the custom of hosting its annual Mass and procession on a nearby Sunday that best suits the parish calendar. In recent years, this has meant gathering in early November, and once again the timing brought together parishioners, families, neighbors, and visitors for a heartfelt expression of faith and devotion.
A Beautiful Mass in Honor of Mary
The celebration opened with a solemn yet joy-filled 12:30pm Mass, beautifully led by Fr. Mirko Integlia, whose warmth, gentle humor, and unmistakable Italian passion set a vibrant tone for the day. He was joined at the altar by Fr. Vincent Nguyen and Fr. Roger Delmonte, who concelebrated with him. The Mass honored Our Lady, who in her Assumption reminds us of the hope and glory promised to all who place their trust in God.
The church resonated with hymns in both Italian and English, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the parish. You could feel the unity in the room families praying together, and an atmosphere that spoke of deep Marian love. The homily reflected on Mary as the model of discipleship, the Mother who walks with us, and the Queen assumed into Heaven who intercedes for her children. It was a moment of unity, where faith and culture blended seamlessly.
A Procession Through the Streets

Following the Mass, the parish community processed reverently through the surrounding streets of Naremburn, carrying the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary adorned with flowers. Passersby paused, some making the sign of the cross, others simply smiling as the crowd passed by—an outward sign of faith brought into the heart of the neighborhood. Families walked together and devotional hymns filled the air. As always, the procession served not only as a tribute to Mary but also as a public proclamation of gratitude, hope, and belonging.
A Taste of Community: Coffee & Refreshments
No celebration at St. Leonard’s would be complete without a warm gathering afterwards. Parish volunteers prepared refreshments, coffee, and light snacks at the Parish Hall, giving everyone a chance to mingle, reconnect, and celebrate the feast in true community spirit. The laughter of children, the stories shared by longtime parishioners, and the joy of being together all added to the festive atmosphere.
Why This Celebration Matters
For the Italian-Catholic community of St. Leonard’s, this event is more than tradition—it is an annual expression of identity, devotion, and love for the Blessed Mother. The Assumption reminds the faithful of God’s promise of eternal life and Mary’s unique role in salvation history. By celebrating together, the parish honors her with gratitude and keeps alive a treasured cultural and spiritual heritage.
A Tradition That Continues to Inspire
This year’s procession and Mass once again proved that Marian devotion is alive and strong in Naremburn. It was a day of prayer, fellowship, and joyful witness—one that brought together generations and strengthened the bonds of faith that hold the community together.
As we look forward to next year’s celebration, we give thanks for a community rooted in tradition, strengthened by devotion, and guided by the gentle presence of Our Lady.
Mary, assumed into Heaven—pray for us!
