At Lower North Shore Parish, Pastoral Care is the compassionate ministry of accompanying people through every season of life. Following the example of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we seek to bring God's love, hope, comfort, and healing to those who are sick, elderly, grieving, isolated, or experiencing life's many challenges.
Our mission is to ensure that no one journeys alone. Through prayer, presence, listening, and practical support, we strive to reflect Christ's loving care to every member of our parish community.
Our Pastoral Care Ministry
Our dedicated pastoral care team works alongside our clergy to provide spiritual support and compassionate companionship to parishioners and their families. Our ministry includes:
🕊 Visiting the Sick and Homebound
For parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to illness, age, or limited mobility, our clergy and trained pastoral care ministers provide regular visits, prayer, and Holy Communion.
🙏 Holy Communion to the Sick
Those unable to participate in Sunday Mass can receive the Eucharist in their homes, hospitals, or aged care facilities, remaining spiritually united with our parish community.
❤️ Hospital and Aged Care Ministry
We visit parishioners in hospitals and residential aged care facilities, offering prayer, the Sacraments, and the reassuring presence of the Church during times of illness and recovery.
✝ Bereavement Support
We accompany families following the death of a loved one through pastoral care, funeral preparation, prayer, and ongoing support as they journey through grief.
🤝 Listening and Spiritual Support
Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is a listening ear. Our pastoral team is available to accompany those experiencing loneliness, anxiety, family difficulties, or other personal challenges with compassion, confidentiality, and prayer.
When Can We Help?
Please let us know if you or someone you know:
- Is seriously ill or recovering from surgery
- Has been admitted to hospital
- Is living at home and unable to attend Mass
- Has moved into an aged care facility
- Would like to receive Holy Communion at home
- Is approaching the end of life and wishes to receive the Sacraments
- Has experienced the loss of a loved one
- Would appreciate a pastoral visit or prayer
We encourage families and friends to contact the parish, as we are not always notified when someone becomes ill or enters hospital.
Become a Pastoral Care Volunteer
Pastoral Care is a beautiful ministry of presence, compassion, and hope. If you have a caring heart, a listening ear, and a desire to serve others, you may be called to share in this ministry.
Volunteers receive appropriate formation and work closely with the parish clergy to bring Christ's love to those most in need.
