Hearts Burning, Voices Raised: A Blessed Evening at St. Thomas’ Willoughby

This evening at St. Thomas’ Church, Willoughby, our community was gifted with a truly grace-filled celebration, one that brought together the beauty of the Eucharist, the joy of the children’s choir, and the powerful message of the Third Sunday of Easter (Year A).
In the Gospel of the road to Emmaus, we are reminded of how the disciples’ hearts burned within them as they encountered the risen Christ, first in the Scriptures, and then in the breaking of the bread. Tonight, that same experience felt close to us. As we were led prayerfully through the celebration of the Eucharist, we were drawn into that sacred encounter: listening, reflecting, and recognising Christ present among us.
This sense of “hearts burning” was echoed so beautifully in the singing of our children’s choir. Their voices, pure and full of joy, filled the church and lifted our spirits. It was more than music. It was a living proclamation of faith, a reminder that Christ is alive and moving in the hearts of our young people.
We give heartfelt thanks for Guinevere, Rose, Oliver, Raelene, Racquel, Samuel, Benjamin, Grace, Briana, Brenda, Alexa, and Miranda. Each of them contributed their unique voice to a harmony that spoke of unity, hope, and love. Their singing helped open our ears and hearts, much like the disciples on the road to Emmaus.
A special word of gratitude goes to Jim, whose dedication, patience, and guidance have nurtured these young voices so wonderfully. His work was evident not only in the quality of the singing, but in the confidence and joy of the children themselves. We also thank Alanna and all the parents, whose encouragement and support make such moments possible.
This evening was a reminder that Christ continues to walk with us, sometimes unrecognized, yet always present, revealed in the Word, in the Eucharist, and even in the joyful song of children. Like the disciples, may we leave with hearts aflame, ready to share the Good News with others.
May the echo of tonight’s music and prayer remain with us, calling us ever deeper into faith, community, and love.
