Fr Geoff's Farewell Mass for Lower North Shore Parish

Updated: Oct 11

On Sunday, 21st October 2025, we gathered at St Thomas Church, Willoughby, for a heartfelt farewell Mass for Fr Geoff Bugden. This event was more than just a goodbye; it was a tribute to a man who devoted nearly 30 years to the Diocese of Broken Bay. His journey began in 1995 at St Leonard’s Church, and he has since served in various parishes, always returning to the Parish of Lower North Shore. His unwavering commitment to our community and the Church has touched many lives, and his presence will be greatly missed.

A Heartfelt Celebration

The farewell Mass was a beautifully organized gathering, with parishioners from all three churches in our parish coming together to express their appreciation for Fr Geoff. The atmosphere was warm and filled with gratitude as heartfelt stories were shared.

Fr Geoff has always been admired for his kind and devoted nature. His insightful homilies have inspired many, encouraging parishioners to deepen their faith. Studies show that regular participation in community worship can increase faith retention by nearly 20%. His impactful messages have fostered a stronger sense of community within our parish.

As Fr Geoff stood before the congregation, it was clear how significant his impact has been. The love and respect he has earned were evident, making this farewell a bittersweet occasion for everyone involved.

Memories and Reflections

Throughout his time in the Diocese, Fr Geoff has created countless memories with those he served. From baptisms to weddings, and comforting bereaved families, he has been a guiding light. For example, he officiated over 150 weddings and supported at least 200 families during their most challenging times, showing his dedication to being there in moments of joy and sorrow.

His genuine connection with people has made him not just a priest, but also a friend. As stories flowed from the congregation, it became evident that Fr Geoff's legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering faith. The bonds formed through shared experiences in our community will remain strong and continue to inspire us.

As we remember his time with us, we acknowledge the importance of community and the deep relationships built over the years. Fr Geoff has been a cornerstone of our parish, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt.

Wishing Fr Geoff Well

As we say goodbye to Fr Geoff, we do so with heavy hearts but also with hope for his future. Our prayers are with him, wishing him peace, joy, and many blessings in his next chapter.

May the Good Lord continue to bless and guide him in his journey. While we will miss his presence, we believe that his spirit will remain with us, inspiring us to continue the work he so passionately dedicated himself to.

In conclusion, let us remember Fr Geoff not just as a priest, but as a symbol of love and service. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all he has touched, and we are profoundly grateful for the time we shared with him. Thank you, Fr Geoff, for everything. You will be truly missed.
