A Night of Joy and Grace: First Reconciliation at St. Thomas’ Church, Willoughby

Last Tuesday evening, 24th March, was a truly vibrant and joy-filled night for our LNS Parish community as we celebrated the First Reconciliation of our children at St. Thomas’ Church, Willoughby. From the moment families began arriving, the church was alive with anticipation, laughter, and the gentle hum of excited chatter, signaling a milestone in the faith journey of our young parishioners that would be remembered for years to come.

The evening unfolded in two wonderfully lively celebrations. The 5:30pm session welcomed around 50 children, followed by another 27 children at 7:00pm. It was heartwarming to see so many families come together, gathered in support and prayer for their children as they prepared to meet God’s mercy for the first time. The church radiated a sense of community, joy, and spiritual anticipation.

Administering the sacrament were Fr. Vincent, Fr. Stephen, Fr. Roger, and Fr. Viet, who gently guided each child through their first encounter with God’s forgiveness. The sacrament was celebrated within the liturgy itself, allowing parents, family, and friends to actively participate in the prayers and hymns before the children individually approached the priests for confession. This integration of the sacrament into the liturgy made the experience even more meaningful and unifying for everyone present.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the parents, whose dedication through a home-based preparation program ensured that the children approached the sacrament with confidence, understanding, and reverence. Special gratitude is also due to Ms. Jade Tran, our parish sacramental coordinator, whose meticulous planning, organization, and coordination with families and the parish office ensured the evening ran flawlessly.

As each celebration concluded, the church buzzed with joy, pride, and gratitude. Parents expressed heartfelt thanks, delighted to see their children receive the sacrament smoothly and meaningfully. The evening was capped with group photos, family portraits, and snapshots with the priests, a tangible memory of this milestone in the children’s spiritual journey.

Indeed, the First Reconciliation at St. Thomas’ Church was a beautiful reminder that, together, in Christ’s love, we celebrate, journey, and grow in faith as a vibrant and united parish family. It was a night filled with laughter, prayer, and heartfelt joy, a true testament to God’s presence in our community.
