Last Sunday, 3 May 2026, marked a significant and grace-filled moment for the Lower North Shore parish community with the launch of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (Latin Mass) at St Leonard’s Church.
From the very beginning, it was clear that this was no ordinary Sunday. With a congregation of over 190 faithful, the church was beautifully filled. It was an inspiring sign of the deep spiritual hunger and devotion present within the community. Many came with curiosity, others with familiarity, but all were drawn into the reverence and sacred beauty that the Extraordinary Form offers.
The liturgy itself was celebrated with great care and dignity. The silence, the chant, the gesture, all spoke powerfully of the mystery of God. There was a palpable sense of awe, as hearts and minds were lifted in prayer. For some, it was a rediscovery; for others, a first encounter. Yet for all, it was an experience of encountering the Lord in a profound and timeless way.
Following the Mass, the community gathered for a potluck and BBQ dinner, which proved to be just as memorable. The warmth of fellowship matched the beauty of the liturgy. Parishioners and visitors alike shared food, stories, and laughter, creating a welcoming and joyful atmosphere. It was especially heartening to see so many new faces feeling at home so quickly.
This successful launch is more than a single event. It is the beginning of a new chapter for the parish. It reflects not only a love for the Church’s rich liturgical tradition, but also a vibrant and growing community eager to deepen its faith.
We warmly invite you to join this Mass every Sunday at 4:00 pm at St Leonard’s Church, Naremburn, and be part of this growing community rooted in reverence, united in charity, and drawn ever closer to Christ.
As we give thanks for such a blessed beginning, we look forward with hope to the continued growth of this community that is rooted in reverence, united in charity, and drawn ever closer to Christ.
