About the event

The Mass Explained

The Mass is a central act of worship in the Catholic Church and is considered the source and summit of Christian life. It is a celebration of the Eucharist, where Catholics believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the consecrated elements of bread and wine. Below is an overview of the structure and significance of the Mass.

Structure of the Mass

  • Introductory Rites: This part includes the entrance song, greeting, penitential act, Gloria, and the opening prayer.

  • Liturgy of the Word: This segment consists of readings from the Scriptures, a homily, the profession of faith (Creed), and the prayers of the faithful.

  • Liturgy of the Eucharist: This includes the preparation of the gifts, the Eucharistic Prayer, and the distribution of Communion.
